Start Wars has always been a huge influence to me. Now I see the franchise as being Andor through Return of the Jedi. This is a series where I analyze each season and the four movies.

no Episode 10 please!!! Star Wars is a giant galaxy and actually I think it should take more risks but not in the way we’ve thought. The things with the Darth Maul show or marvels Eternals is that they are a surface level risk but everything about them is cookie-cutter and not outside the realm of what we know, so really they take no risks with those films in terms of story, execution or character. Compared to Andor which like Lucas delves more into different genres at times whether it be political spy thriller or action or character drama. Star Wars is a giant galaxy that should tell multiple stories that don’t look or feel the same, as not everything should be derivative of the OG trilogy or connected to the skywalker saga, and quite frankly the tight grip and hold of nostalgia.
Regarding all white imperials
Film is visual storytelling
Getting into lore and worldbuilding can be detrimental to a story if youre trying to explain information instead of communicating through the visuals directly to the viewer first and foremost. Ie. Show. Don't Tell
Unfortunately, with the nature and probably direct result of star wars and its expanded universe (whether it be canon or legends…) a lot of viewers need every aspect to have a back story and explanation attached.
I can't thank Andor enough, not just for being peak star wars, but for making people revisit Rogue One and appreciate it like I always did.
Greatest Star Wars movie ever!
The way it introduced you to the REBELLION and The Empire and Darth Vader
Jyn is such a lost character throughout, broken by the loss of her beloved father. This film is about the epic impact of disposable people, modeled after The Battle of Algiers. Your comment about v the transition to space wizards at the end was perfect. A continually rewarding flawed masterpiece for the film community
Rouge one existed in Star Wars lore way before a twenty something actor improvised it in a take. If he improvised every call sign while filming the scene, the production decided to choose the one that was pre existing. That aside, the reason people hate Rouge One is because they are star wars fans, and it is a good war movie instead of a two hour stream of memberberries and most star wars fans are… easily pleased.
Rogue one was one of the best besides episodes III, IV, V
Wow. Everyone in this movie blows up when they dont serve the plot. Then it switches to fan service solely after peppering in the worst hidden easter eggs all over the movie in like every other shot. KYSO is cool tho
It's okay. A lot didn't make sense.
good point
I agree that this is the best Star Wars movie so far. I saw the original Episode 4 on the big screen. It was so different from the sci-fi I grew up with that I was awed. I think that the homogenous Empire military makeup is forgivable because it's no secret that they're the N4zi. The uniform, the rifle blasters, and the soldier's conduct are all modeled on that. That's no secret. Evil. Thanks for your breakdown. I remember the original was criticized as a pandering, plotless enterprise. I didn't care. I loved it. And I love Rogue 1.
My mom and dad grew up with Starwars and thus made sure to raise me with the series as well. Some of my fondest childhood memories is playing with this one Ewok Village playset every Christmas, watching Star Wars Rebels and Clone Wars, and seeing several of the new movies in theaters. That’s
I can safely say that Rogue One and Andor are in my favorite Star Wars film/tvshow. It’s really disappointing that Rogue One got the short end of the stick from reviewers.
I watched Andor season 1 & 2 with my girl who had never seen Star Wars. She loved it! …. until, while watching Rogue One, Darth Vader appeared and killed everybody. Bad ass right? Well, girlfriend strongly disagreed. Lol. She though it was "so stupid". "…how did that thing with a Popsicle went though all those guys!? so stupid" hahahh.
Then I realised how great Andor was by itself.
1) I feel the point of the long walk during the opening scene was to enhance and prolong the sense of impending danger.
2) Almost everyone I knew was astounded by the level of realism and detail achieved with Tarkin. Everyone I knew who thought it was unethical then also resent advances in AI now as well as what the implications are for current artists. The future current artists will embrace and evolve the meaning of art with the tools they have available, as they have done throughout the whole of human history.
3) Your commentary is very insightful, moving into the details of the movie and then expanding out into more universal views of human nature.

I am gonna stop there, but I am sure there are plenty of reviewers who pointed out this. You are not special or unique, history has been recorded. Rogue One is slow and pointless. Get over yourself.
It's funny that some people complain about the characters being blunt. Personally i care more of Bodi who probably appears least of the main cast than I ever cared about Rey or Finn or whatever even was the name of the pilot guy in the new trilogy.
I would consider myself a huge star wars fan. (before disney took over I sady have to say) and Rogue One is by far my favorite star wars movie. The visuals are great and the story just feels more real and grown up than even the original movies.
Not to mention, this moment actually fits the dialogue of the original film because these guys have to have been to other planets in order to have the death penalty on 12 systems. 13:01
The Skywalker Saga ended with Return of the Jedi. 0:10
I’ve been a Rogue One fan all along, but now I’m even more glad it exists because it’s become such a fantastic epilogue to Andor 👍😃
It's a movie designed to fill gaps in the story. Everybody dies… how convenient. The bright spot in the whole thing is K2so.
There should be a Director's cut
You and I have the same 3 favorites.
I agree – Rogue One is my favorite!! Glad that a Star Wars fan agrees.
This(Rouge One) was the best one out of that pile of shit.
reply for that comment: White men created all Sci-fi and Fantassy Lore for themselves, no other race participated.
BigCorp inserted other races everywhere, just to find New Markets.
(And BigCorp is willing to shutter the Lore for profit: that black guy in the Sequels? was almost deleted in China ! )
What's wrong with Nostalgia?
I think young people should shut up – nostalgia is All they will be left with, when older.
I can't help but notice that a lot of the flimsy criticisms of Rogue One comes from a particular group, who are offended by anything with a female or minority lead, and this has both!
Rogue One is well fit for what these rebels are. They are spies. This is spy movie like James Bond.
Understanding the past, I find it less odd than astounding that at this time, with so many ages removed from the beginning of history that there is still a view that "all white equals evil". It is only when looking at a very particular time that is in truth rather recent that such detail may be pertinent. Of course that also ignores the rest of the planet's different empires that still exist and still perpetuate the same evils they always have. This becomes even more glaring if you wonder why must all white equal evil. Why not all black? why not all asian? after all isn't fair all important? isn't equality all important?
Apparently not. This is the danger of the concept that is Hollywood. When propaganda is once again colored as entertainment and an agenda is set on film, especially one that isn't one set in truth, then you'd better understand that it will not just fail, but will in fact perpetuate the exact thing it is hoping to show. Simply put, making "all white = evil" isn't based in truth, because it does so exclusively. That in itself is racist. If you don't see that, you really must expand your historical and global viewpoints. If true history was taught, racism wouldn't exist at all. Personal prejudice would and could exist within everyone equally without judgement because it will be based upon individuals and not races. Incompatible cultures that cannot exist living amongst each other will always be a reality, but that is not race based. Borders exist because of cultures, not races. Know the difference. Race is something that is part of being human, developed within us as a species – it cannot be taught it is created. Culture is taught therefore it is made by man as a conscious decision. The uneducated as well as the hateful will want to confuse you by conflating the two realities thereby creating the permission structure for civil division. It is an agenda meant to conquer. Let these words reach everyone equally.
Hunter S. Thompson once perfectly described what you said about the critics (because let's be honest, they are a form of "the press.") Here it is with some characters swapped out for the censor:
"Why bother with newspapers, if this is all they offer? (Spiro) Agnew was right. The press is a gang of cruel f@ggots. Journalism is not a profession or a trade. It is a cheap catch-all for f*ckoffs and misfits—a false doorway to the backside of life, a filthy p1ss-ridden little hole nailed off by the building inspector, but just deep enough for a wino to curl up from the sidewalk and m@sturbate like a chimp in a zoo-cage."
Something I can't explain is my view of the ending. Normally I want the good guys to win & survive. As the ending was coming on very cool characters started dropping off like flies. Then their ride home is blown up. More cool people die. The movie is closing in on them. I know that they will likely die. They save the day. Jyn & Cassian are on the beach… their exchange brings me to tears. Then they are gone. Everyone dies yet its the best Star Wars I've ever seen.
At 25:44, I think you meant to say: "horrifying: (Not "horrific")
The bottom line is you don't need to figure out why you liked it too much but rather why they didn't. 'cause screw them! Sometimes masterpieces slip past nearly everyone. Rogue One is for sure one of those movies. Just like The Cable Guy.
I'm 53 and watched Star Wars when it first came out. The Empire Strikes Back became my favorite when I first saw it and over the decades stayed as my favorite. Then Rogue One happened. I also felt like it was the best Star Wars movie I had ever seen and after a few more viewings I came to the unbelievable conclusion that something had finally surpassed Empire. Then there were the credits. I was shocked that at least 2/3 were fully against the movie. I began watching Andor when it came out and liked it right away.
Well done sir
If all you see is skin color, then that's your problem
It's ironic how people complained about nostalgia bait from this movie when that's all Star Wars has become
I gotta say your last sentence hits hard. The tyranny has just begun.
I liked this one
Rogue One is the only new gen Star Wars story worth watching
The US was mostly a white country back then, so stop ranting about white men!
Rogue One is by Far the best 'new' Star Wars' film, I especially loved how it ended.
