  1. just heard you on CoastToCoast ☺️
Rod Serling was amazing. There's a video here on YT of a fairly lengthly interview with him wherein he talks about his early career. SO interesting! i knew a bit about the influence of his service in WWII, but didn't know he was also a Madison Ave copywriter as well. fascinating man

  2. I think he's got some kind of issue with Asimov. It's an odd thing. I feel like he's skimming one of the most significant writers of the 50's. Hmmm..

  3. You forgot the greatest Science fiction producer vom the 60ties . Perry Rhodan. A lot ideas from Enterprise and Stargate were stolen from there.Evidence

Stargate from 1968, called in this series an transmitter

A Borg qubit from 1968 stolen from this series called a pospi qube , Borg called here biologic positronic robot.
So if you can read this series, and a lot of Americans can, You find actually how many Ideas are stolen from there, nearly everything for the series Enterprise and a lot for the series stargate.

  4. I recently discovered this channel when one of your videos popped up on my YT feed. In this video you've given me some writers to look into who I'd never heard of. Love your passion for SF!

  5. You're really pushing the definition of sci-fi when you argue that Marvel comics are sci-fi. It's obvious Stan Lee never did any scientific research before creating his characters and I doubt he considered what he was writing to be serious sci-fi, more like a merger between sci-fi and fantasy where science is the magic.

  6. Mr scifi, Interestingly in L Ron hubard's Fear the main character writes a thesis on religion quote. ''I have sought to show that demons and devils were invented to allow some cunning member of the tribe to gain control of his fellows by the process of inventing something for them to fear and then offering to act as interpreter'' L ron Hubbard was telling us his scheme in his work lol

  7. Hi Mr Zicree. Some comments.
I loved EE 'Doc' Smith's Lensman series, read it through twice in my teens. The thing that stuck with me was the idea that spaceships should be spherical because that is the strongest, most energy efficient shape.
I believe C S Lewis' original SF novel was 'Mission to Mars' or some such. Certainly Perelandra was also published as Voyage to Venus. JRR Tolkein was the Catholic amongst the Oxford dons; Lewis was Protestant, Anglican I believe.
Maybe it's the plastic cover but Mathieson looks more like Brando to me.
Somewhere in Time was Chris Reeves and Jane Seymour not Adams.
Love your conversational flow of consciousness style! Looking forward to watching more!

  8. This is really great. Just geeky enough, erudite, inspiring, yet never over the top. This was the stuff of my childhood, I loved it all. Thanks.

  9. Just found your great channel. Love the books behind you and it was great seeing good books from before the 1950's.

There is a great non fiction book called Operation Paperclip about Nazi scientists coming to the US after WW2.

I was wondering your thoughts about Philip Jose Farmer and sex in science fiction. I was under the impression that he brought it as a topic to mainstream sci fi. I believe Heinlein's Stranger in a Strange Land was dedicated to him (along with others). I am presently doing a detailed discussion about the Riverworld Series on my channel and there is a discussion of race, sexism and homosexuality in the second and third book of the series.

Looking forward to further videos on this topic.

  10. So many memories!  The earliest I recall reading was Lester del Rey's "The Runaway Robot" in 3rd grade, 1964 or '65.  I think I saw the film adaptation of Wells' "First Men in the Moon" the next summer at camp.  I still have boxes and boxes of paperbacks and pulps from the 1970s.

  11. Magnus, Robot Fighter entranced me as a kid in the 60's. "From the sea comes Magnus to fight the evil robot who are the masters of man!" Those robot designs are still the coolest.
