These aren’t the blockbusters you remember. While Jurassic Park and Independence Day dominated the decade, a parallel universe of strange, ambitious sci-fi horror was quietly running alongside them — and almost nobody noticed.

In this video, we’re diving into 11 forgotten gems from the 1990s that got buried by studio interference, bad timing, or marketing departments that had no idea what they were selling. From Guillermo del Toro’s stolen vision on Mimic, to the missing footage rotting in a Transylvanian salt mine from Event Horizon, to the eerily prescient alien invasion thriller The Arrival — these films had real ideas, real craft, and real directors. They just never got their moment.

Films covered:

🎬 The Relic (1997)
🎬 Screamers (1995)
🎬 Mimic (1997)
🎬 The Puppet Masters (1994)
🎬 Body Snatchers (1993)
🎬 Event Horizon (1997)
🎬 Ticks (1993)
🎬 The Arrival (1996)
🎬 Progeny (1998)
🎬 Habitat (1997)
🎬 Dark Breed (1996)

Which one are you watching first? Drop it in the comments.

  1. a) Relic, like many other movies, learned to not show the beast too much. They all most probably learned this Spielberg when he released Jaws.
    b) The Arrival, I literally laughed out loud when I first saw one alien "switch" his knees.

  2. Except for the top three I’ve seen everything else around the time they came out. The Relic, Screamers, and The Puppet Masters my mom’s actually took me to the theaters to see when they came out. The Relic, Event Horizon, and Body Snatchers scared me the most when I was a kid.

  3. I need to watch Event Horizon first. I have watched it before and maybe more than once but I just don't remember much about it so I'll watch it again to reignite my memory and hopefully enjoy it or yet another time.
Most of what's on this list I would like to see and I will watch most of them but, I'm not sure if I will watch all of them. I'll probably give them all at least a quick shot to see how they look. Pat, depending on how that goes, will depend on whether I watch the whole movie but there are a few in there that without a doubt I will be watching. Thank you for making this list.
In the '90s I lived in a very rural area Of Northern Michigan and I only received Three television stations just the main networks so when I was finally able to get a satellite and that was one of the early satellites, I was able to bounce the total stations up to around 20 to 23 which was on a c band satellite before dish and directv or at least before they were available in my area.
Now I'm streaming and I get too many channels to count a lot of them. I still have never heard of before. It's quite a change.
I guess that's what 40 years does with the changes in The available technology.
