1. Some of the SS cowards at Oradore were French! They massacred their own countrymen. They were arrested after the war and some were supposed to be executed, but their sentences were commuted to life, then eventually they were released in a post war amnesty by De Gaulle. The villagers returned their Legion de Honours and refused to invite any govt representatives to the annual service until the 1980's.
